Hi Karen,
I really enjoyed your class yesterday on Energizing Your Classroom. I am the one that did not know what a blog was. Thanks for filling me in and also directing me to WordPress.com. I will check into the training warehouse web site, but I will not copy your chimes--smile. All the best, Bob Garcia --front row all the way your right.

Great ideas about the growth of coaching. With such a growth, a concurrent growth is occuring in training and development evaluation that shows that though we are excited about this 'coaching field' we are still in a mess about what it actually is and what explains the most variance for success. A $100 billion industry with only a 10 percent ROI in terms of transfer of learning is alarming. For behavior change is different than mere excitement or engagement on a topic/coach.

Warmest regards,
Dr. Kevin Fleming

Karen,
Read your blog with interest. I've read that the learning loss is 80% and the one learns about 75% of the original instruction.. . . .we're getting a very low rate of return with the traditional approach to instruction - telling!

We use an intervention call "rehearsal" to combat this situation with very good results. As an instructor, what ones does is build in repeat, review, thus rehearsal activities so that the brain can anchor new concepts in every session and several times within the session.

Results show tremondous gains in learning, behavior change abd ROI.

Amen to that! I gave up on trying to remember all those ID's and passwords long ago. I just peeked and I have about 400 of them. Yes, that's right, 400! About 5 years ago I started using a password keeper program - a tiny software program written just for the purpose of holding your ID's and passwords. It is encrypted and needs a password itself but that's the ONLY one I need to remember now. I can just copy and paste from the program into each website I visit.

There are a number of these available but I use Whisper 2000 - it's easy to use and it's free! If you use more than one pc you might be better off with one of the web-based programs but this works well for me!

Karen,

I love it. I think if we provide links for our members they will have an opportuntiy to participate in bringing their collective wisdom to the chapter and support the mission of the chapter.

Thanks for sharing your blog. I will tune in and just see how this works. I've not considered it for myself but you've given me some food for thought.
